Portfolio Settings - Time Tracking, Resource Planning & Project Management Documentation

Portfolio Settings control how the portfolio module displays time, maps Jira date fields to the Gantt chart, and calculates working capacity.

Accessing Portfolio Settings

Option 1 - Per Portfolio: Open a portfolio → click the Settings (gear) icon → Portfolio Settings tab

Option 2 - Global: Global sidebar → Settings → Portfolio tab

Setting	Description	Example
Time Display Unit	How hours appear in portfolio table columns	Hours, Days, Story Points
Bookings Start Date	Which Jira field maps to the Gantt bar start	"Start date", "Custom field: Planned Start"
Bookings End Date	Which Jira field maps to the Gantt bar end	"Due date", "Custom field: Planned End"
Hours Per Day	Converts day estimates to hours for capacity	8
Working Days	Which days count as working days	Mon–Fri
Calendar	Working calendar used for Gantt scheduling	Default Jira calendar

The Gantt chart requires explicit date field mappings:

Go to Portfolio Settings → Bookings Start Date → select the Jira field that represents the planned start
Set Bookings End Date → select the Jira field that represents the planned end
Click Save

If these are not set, the Gantt chart will not render bars for issues that lack the expected date fields.

Start Date	"Start date" (native Jira field) or a custom Date field
End Date	"Due date" (native Jira field) or a custom Date field

Problem	Fix
Gantt bars not rendering	Verify Start and End date fields are mapped and issues have values in those fields
Wrong timeline dates	Check field mapping - a mismatched field (e.g., Created vs Start date) produces wrong bars
Bars rendering in wrong position	Confirm Hours Per Day and Working Days match your team's schedule

Configure Portfolio Settings before creating your first Gantt-based portfolio - fixing date mappings after bars are created can cause visual shifts
