Aggregation Methods
The aggregation method controls what value appears in each cell. The default is Count.
All 7 Aggregation Methods
| Method | What It Calculates | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Count | Number of issues in that cell | Most reports - issue volume |
| Sum | Total of a numeric field across matching issues | Story Points, estimate, or custom number fields |
| Average | Mean value of a numeric field | Average story points per issue type |
| Minimum | Lowest value of a numeric field | Fastest resolution time per category |
| Maximum | Highest value of a numeric field | Longest-running issue per assignee |
| Count as Fraction of Rows (%) | Each cell as a percentage of its row total | Row-relative distribution |
| Sum as Fraction of Rows (%) | Sum as a percentage of the row total | Proportional contribution |
Choosing an Aggregation Field
When using Sum, Average, Minimum, or Maximum, you must select an Aggregation Field - the numeric Jira field whose values will be aggregated.
Common aggregation fields:
- Story Points
- Original Estimate
- Time Spent
- Any custom numeric field
Practical Examples
Story points per assignee per sprint:
- Row: Assignee, Column: Sprint, Method: Sum, Field: Story Points
Average story points per issue type:
- Row: Issue Type, Column: Status, Method: Average, Field: Story Points
Percentage of each assignee's work by status:
- Row: Assignee, Column: Status, Method: Count as Fraction of Rows (%)
- Result: Each row sums to 100% - shows what proportion of each person's work is in each status
